Ms. Brooke VanKempen, Director of Bands
Before coming to Dacula, Brooke VanKempen
served as Co-Director of Bands at Archer High
School since 2015. While at Archer High School,
Brooke contributed to the band program by
running marching and jazz band rehearsals as well
as all band classes. She also wrote a grant to add
technology devices for the band, learned how to
teach music technology, began the Modern Music
Masters Club, and started Archer’s first Winter
A native of Forsyth County GA, she is a 2015
honor graduate of The University of Georgia where
she received her Bachelor’s in Music Education.
While at the University of Georgia, she served as a
drum major of the Redcoat Marching Band for two
years and worked with the University Band as a
Guest Conductor. Brooke also served as Vice
President of the Collegiate National Association for
Her studies include conducting with Dr. Jaclyn
Hartenberger and Dr. Michael Robinson and tuba
with Professor David Zerkel. She is also a Tubist
with the Northwinds Community Band. As an edu-
cator, Ms. VanKempen serves actively as a clini-
cian, adjudicator, and a private instructor for con-
ducting. Her professional affiliations include Geor-
gia Music Educators’ Association and the National
Association for Music Education

Welcome to the
Aaron R. Smith, Color Guard Director
Aaron is a native of Zebulon, Georgia, but has called Loganville home for more than fifteen years. In his high school years he was an accomplished Clarinet player and color guard captain. After high school he went on to study fashion design at Bauder College in Atlanta, and Psychology at Gordon State College in Barnesville.
Prior to his arrival at Dacula, Aaron served as the color guard instructor at Pike County High School, Jackson High School, Alcovy High School, Walnut Grove High School, guest instructor at Upson-Lee High School, served as Color Guard Director at Archer High School, and for a brief time served as one of the Color Guard Caption Heads for Alliance Drum and Bugle Corps. In addition to his many contributions on the field, he has also worked with Pike County High School Winter Guard (2014 SAPA SRA Gold Medalist and Fan Favorite), Rockdale Future HeRoS (SAPA 2016 CAD B Bronze Medalist), Phoenix Independent (2016 SAPA IRA Silver Medalist and 2017 IRA Bronze Medalist), and with the help of Ms. VanKempen started the Archer High School Winter Guard in 2018. After having been promoted from SN, the AHS Winter Guard was a 2019 SAPA SRA Bronze Medalist.
When he’s not at Dacula High School, Aaron manages the office at Kelley Channell Studio located in beautiful Downtown Monroe, Georgia. He is also a member of the Yargo Community Concert Band and YCCB Clarinet Choir.
Andrew Bennett, a drum and percussion educator in Gwinnett County, received his Bachelors of Music Performance in Percussion from Mercer University in Macon, Georgia. His classical studies began as a child with piano lessons and expanded to percussion when he joined elementary school band. After many years of private lessons and participation in school band and extracurricular ensembles Andrew decided to continue music in college. After completing his degree he moved to Gwinnett County where he began performing in bands and orchestras as well as teaching lessons, clinics and masterclasses. Andrew currently owns and operates ACBennett Music as a teaching and recording studio from his home in Lawrenceville.
